WELCOME ABOARD TRF: DIG A LITTLE DEEPER EVERYBODY

The folks from both the James River and Montpelier TRFs have provided us with some updated information.

There are over 300 retired racehorses being cared for at Thoroughbred Retirement farms operated by TRF James River and TRF Montpelier…That number includes 24 horses that ran at Colonial Downs including Prado Power (who won $318,640) and Classic Campaign ($584,388) as well as 39 Virginia-breds including Your Chances Are (a winner of $272,205) and Rahy’s Chance ($220,827).

The VTA’s Thoroughbred Development Committee is in the process of finding new ways to help these organizations.

At the April VTA board of directors meeting held on Tuesday, the VTA designated two new board seats for representatives of Virginia’s to TRF organizations.

Also the board approved a new dues schedule which has a portion of each members dues going to a Thoroughbred charity in Virginia.  It is our hope that the majority of our members will choose one or both of the Virginia TRF organizations when that opportunity is presented.  (For existing members, that will be in 2013, for new members the new dues will take effect May 1, 2012).
