Weekend Runners: Grade I Alabama on the line for Miss Besilu

Virginia-bred Miss Besilu lines up in the Grade I Alabama Stakes at Saratoga on Saturday. The Ned Evans-bred daughter of Medaglia d’Oro out of Quiet Dance (Quiet American) drops into the two-hole as the 15/1 morning line choice. A dual lifetime winner, Miss Besilu was most recently third to Stopchargingmaria in the Grade I CCA Oaks on July 20. She will face that rival again on Saturday.

A half to Horse of the Year Saint Liam, Miss Besilu breaks her maiden at Gulfstream on December 7.

Also on Saturday, another Ned Evans-bred enters the Governor’s Park Stakes at Remington Park. A recent fifth in the Grade III Salvator Mile at Monmouth, Code West won the Grade III Matt Winn at Churchill last summer, following a second-placed finish in the Grade II Risen Star. A full-brother to $475,800 graded stakes winner Charitable Man, winner of the Gr. 2 Peter Pan at Belmont Park, the now-4-year-old was sold as a yearling by his breeder at the Keeneland September 2011 yearling sale for $340,000 to Gary and Mary West. He enters the rail slot for current connections Bryan Hawk and trainer Boyd Caster.

Making it a Ned Evans-bred triumvirate, 4-year-old Moro Tap will enter the American St. Leger at Arlington for Skychai Racing, Sand Dollar Stable, T. Raymond and J. Wagner. The son of Tapit was most recently fourth in the Grade III Stars and Stripes at this same venue, and also enters the one-hole at 20/1 morning line odds.

The action continues on Sunday. Ned Evans-bred Valid, owned by Crossed Sabres Farm, enters the Grade III Philip Iselin Stakes at Monmouth. Trained by Marcus Vitali, the son of Medaglia d’Oro won the Grade II Monmouth Cup Stakes this summer. The 4-year-old will enter the fourth post.
