Virginia-bred Prima Facie is now two-for-two, winning the Virginia-bred/sired flat races at both Foxfield September 29 and Glenwood October 6. The 4-year-old gelding (Fantasticat – Parisiana by Mutakddim) is a homebred for James Falk, Sr. and trained by Simon Hobson. Prima Facie dominated in the flat training race at Foxfield by 1 ¼ lengths under rider Jeff Murphy and won equally easily at Glenwood, taking control from the start and facing no serious challengers to win by 2 1/4 lengths.

The VTA caught up with James Falk in the wake of Prima Facie’s second-in-a-row victory on Saturday. Falk is excited about Prima Facie’s chances in the Old Dominion Turf Championship race at the International Gold Cup.

“This really sets him up nicely for the big race,” Falk said. “He came out perfectly and did everything right this morning and was just jumping up and down. He’s amazingly strong at this point, and really a completely sound horse. He just doesn’t have any issues and he’s at the top of his form.”

Falk points to a possible soft course as the only real unknown quantity in Prima Facie’s chances on October 19.

“We don’t know what he would do with soft going,” Falk said. “It would just be a guess. We know that he’s good on firm turf and we know that the hills don’t bother him — he just loves hills.”

Parisiana has a Silver Train filly at foot that Falk calls “the most spectacular foal the mare has had.”

The well-named Virginia-bred Wahoo took home the Sunnybank Cup at Middleburg on October 5. Trained by Neil Morris for owner Sara E. Collette, Wahoo (Prized – Nes, by Waquoit) won the maiden hurdle easily to break his maiden. Rider Darren Nagle was in the irons.
