The Year of the Girls will now conclude with Rachel Alexandra and Zenyatta facing off for Horse of the Year honors.

The two females who dominated racing were the only horses receiving votes for the honor, however, there were three finalists in each of the other 16 Eclipse Award categories announced Wednesday.

Virginia-bred Quality Road is a finalist as is former Virginia Derby winner Gio Ponti (r) and Virginia-connected jumper Spy in the Sky.
