VA-BRED LUNAR MIST WINS MOUNTAINEER’S FIRECRACKER

Malibu Moon’s latest stakes winner came in the $75,000 Firecracker S. at Mountaineer Park on July 3, when Virginia-bred Lunar Mist came from near the back of the pack to prevail by three-quarters of a length on the firm turf course.
Lunar Mist, 4, had to weave through traffic on the turn, then split foes once again in mid-stretch to get the lead inside the sixteenth pole. The gray filly finished the mile in a quick 1:35.85 for her first career stakes win. She was third in the Hatoof S. at Arlington Park last August.
Bred in Virginia by Chance Farm, Lunar Mist is owned by Jerry Jamgotchian and trained by Eric Reed.  The well-traveled filly, who has started at six different tracks in five states, is now 4-2-2 in 14 starts, earning $144,671.
