VA-BRED BREAKS MAIDEN BY 13 LENGTHS

Heavy favorite Valiant Star broke her maiden by an impressive thirteen lengths in the featured race on Sunday’s Fathers’ Day card at Colonial Downs.

Ridden by Eric Camacho, the two-year-old Virginia-bred filly chased the pace from the rail before taking a five-length lead nearing the quarter pole and continuing to widen through the stretch. Trix Are for Katz broke slowly but finished well to take second, while Brandy’s Champ improved through the lane to run third. Making Lemonade, Paulspinkchampagne, Mining Town, and My Graduate rounded out the field for the 5 ½ furlong turf race.

Owned by Mr. and Mrs. C. Oliver Iselin III’s Wolver Hill Farm and trained by Ferris Allen, Valiant Star was making her second start after finishing second earlier this month at Colonial.

Valiant Star is by Grand Slam, out of Classic Contender by Buckfinder.
