The checks for the 10% Breeders Bonus earned during the 2012 Colonial Downs meet will be sent out later this week.

The Virginia Breeders Fund pays a 10% Breeders Bonus for all Virginia-bred horses that won a 100% Owner’s Bonus at Colonial Downs.
“It’s not a lot of money in the grand scheme of things, a little over $61,000,” said VTA Executive Director Glenn Petty, “But it’s important that the breeders see some economic benefit to the owner bonus program that focuses on a relatively short live race meet.”
Virginia breeders are also paid a year end Breeders Award based on all the races won by Virginia-breds all over the United States.
“I believe Virginia is still the only state to pay a Breeders Award no matter where the registered horse wins just so long as it is in the continental U.S.” Petty added.
The Virginia Thoroughbred Association manages the Virginia Breeders Fund under the auspices of the Virginia Racing Commission.
