Sheldon Russell, last year’s second leading jockey at Colonial Downs, collected a trio of wins Monday evening at the New Kent oval, his seventh, eighth and ninth of the young meet .

Russell’s first win came in the first race while guiding Dancing Tara to victory by a close neck. Racing in fourth after the start, the three year old filly rated steadily behind the leaders in third until the final turn when she made her stretch move.

In the second race, Russell had the chance to do it again. After starting in third, the well-rated It’s a G Man pulled ahead of the pack to remain in first through to the finish by 3 ¼ in a steady drive.

After back-to-back wins, Russell’s last win came in Race 9, where he rode Benjamin M. Feliciano, Jr. trained Natural Seven. After starting in second and holding back in fourth for the first half, Natural Seven unleashed in the final stretch pulling past Hesa Big Star by a ½ length at the finish.
