Getting beat a nose in the eight race on June 2nd at Colonial turned out to be the perfect “tune-up” for Virginia-bred Toccoa who extended her record of most starts at the New Kent track to a whopping 22 trips.

Bred in Virginia by Steve and Donna Dennehy’s Eagle Point Farm in Ashland, Toccoa found the winners’ circle for the fifth time in the third race with a neck victory over Miss Lucy Mae.

Trained by Karen Dennehy Godsey and ridden by regular rider Geovany Garcia, Toccoa took the third race after shifting wide around the far turn and closing determinedly in the final jumps.

By Purple Comet, out of Misquinto by Magic Prospect, Toccoa was bet down to favorite status, won in a final time of 1:03.22.

The nine-year-old mare now has six wins in 30 lifetime starts and her win yesterday increased her lifetime earnings beyond the $100,000 mark.
