THOROUGHBRED HANDLE NATIONWIDE CONTINUES TO FALL

Overall handle wagered on Thoroughbred races declined again in May falling from $1,499,103,122 in 2008 to $1,375,229,442 in 2009, a decline of 8.26 percent.

Purses also declined again falling to $105,106,967 for the month as compared to $112,695,212 for the same period in 2008. That mark is a decline of 6.73 percent.

Year to date, wagering is down 9.22 percent from $6,069,837,619 to $5,510,415,896 and purses are down 5.54 percent from $427,010,362 to $403,346,939.
