Study on Possible Hampton Roads Casino

The Hampton Roads Pilot today reports on a new study commissioned by the state Senate committee earlier this year, when it voted down two gambling bills by Sen. Louise Lucas, a Portsmouth Democrat. The study suggests that a casino in Hampton Roads might produce $113 million a year for road projects or to offset tolls.

The study does not account for any potential casino revenue allocation to horse racing, as in New York. Passage for the legalization of casino gambling in the state of Virginia is unlikely, according to Sen. Frank Wagner (R-Virginia Beach), quoted in the Pilot story.
