“It was an exhilarating feeling at the quarter pole knowing that I had a shot. I have never wanted to win a photo for third so bad in my life. The horse ran great, and the best part is I think he’s really going to move forward off of this, and I’m looking forward to his next race.”

— Rosie Napravnik, only the third woman jockey to ride in the Derby.

A New Jersey native, Napravnik began her career at Pimlico in 2005 as a 17-year-old. She was a regular rider in Maryland through 2008 and topped the jockey standings there in 2006 and 2008.

Regarding the Preakness, Napravnik said, “There’s no other race I would rather be in and win.”
