HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. (AP)—Quality Road won the Grade 3, $100,000 Hal’s Hope Stakes by 2 3/4 lengths Sunday on opening day at Gulfstream Park.

The victory came on the same track where Quality Road won the Florida Derby last spring. He missed the Triple Crown races because of hoof injuries and refused to enter the starting gate for the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita Park in November.
There was no repeat, and (Va-bred) Quality Road took the lead early along the inside. He was briefly challenged but won going away.
He covered a mile in 1:36.33 and paid $2.80, $2.20 and $2.10. You And I Forever returned $6.80 and $3.80, and Congressional Page paid $5.20 to show.
