PRICCI ON HOMEMEISTER’S RUNNER-UP RIDE IN BC MARATHON

From John Pricci:

Breeders’ Cup Marathon: I loved it when Rosemary Homeister Jr. attempted to seize the day and steal a 14-furlong race with a daring turn move on the final bend with Cloudy’s Knight (pink cap), only to miss by the slimmest margin to classy European Man of Iron, which received strong and pluperfect handling from a brilliant Johnny Murtagh.Like the inevitably close battle for Horse of the Year 2009, this race would not have deserved a loser no matter how the photo turned out.

“Rosie,” who rode her 2,000th career winner earlier this year, is riding at an extremely high level–and not because “she’s a girl.”All top riders excel on turf and this miss dominates that surface at both Tampa Bay Downs and Colonial Downs where, even if the competition is not the equal of the New York, California and Kentucky circuits, is certainly just as fierce.

Good job, Rosie; tough beat, girl.
