OFF TO THE RACES DEPUTS ON DERBY DAY

Nick Hahn interviews Rosemary Homeister

We’re OFF TO THE RACES” in the 14th running of radio coverage of the Triple Crown and live thoroughbred racing at Colonial Downs.

Tune in Saturday mornings at 11:00 AM on ESPN 950AM, WXGI with hosts Nick Hahn and “Derby” Bill Watson. This Saturday’s Derby Premier broadcast is live from Finn McCool’s located in Innsbrook of Richmond’s west end.  Doors open early at 10:00am.

Perhaps the most popular segment of the weekly show is “Jockey Jive” when Nick talks with the leading riders at Colonial Downs.

As the “Heavyweight of Handicapping”, Derby Bill makes his picks in races across the country versus national handicapper Mike Dempey of turfnsport.com.

Nick is a Virginia correspondent with The Bloodhorse, bloodhorse.com and with several Virginia newspapers.  Nick’s Picks are available racedays during the live meet at Colonial Downs.  Derby Bill’s picks are available at derbybill.com.

Kathleen O’Connell, who has brought stable of horses to Colonial Downs the last several summers, is this week’s guest.  In Saturday’s  Kentucky Derby, “OC” will start Tampa Bay Derby winner, Watch Me Go from the outside post.

Should the 50-1 morning line win, O’Connell will be the first female trainer to condition a Derby winner.  How might the #20 post fare?  Big Brown won the Derby from the outside gate in 2008.
