Nominations for Virginia Day at Laurel

Although racing in Virginia is in a holding pattern, the VHBPA and the Virginia Thoroughbred Association will sponsor five Virginia-bred/Virginia-sired stakes races at Laurel Park on Saturday, September 13. These five stakes will be the same stakes typically run at Colonial Downs during the regular summer meet and will each carry a purse of $60,000 guaranteed.

“Thanks to Georganne and her crew in the Laurel racing office, especially Shane Burke who did a great job of hustling nominations,” said VTA Executive Director Debbie Easter. “We couldn’t be happier with the number of nominations; They are up significantly from last year. Since Virginia owners couldn’t run at Colonial this year I think they really appreciate that the Maryland Jockey Club is willing to card these races for us. We are hoping for strong, full fields  next Saturday.”

The stakes and nominations are as follows:

The Oakley Stakes, for Virginia-bred and Virginia-sired fillies and mares 3 years old and upward, will be run over 5 ½ furlongs on the turf. Click here for nominations.

The Jamestown Stakes, for Virginia-bred and Virginia-sired 2-year-olds, will be run over 5 ½ furlongs on the turf. Click here for nominations.

The Punch Line Stakes, for Virginia-bred and Virginia-sired 3-year-olds and upward, will be run over 5 ½ furlongs on the turf. Click here for nominations.
