LOOKING FOR ONE MORE – Trainer Dale Romans was quoted after the Turf Cup that in regard to pedigree, Paddy O’Prado’s best days are in front of him. That may be more true if he wins the Virginia Derby. Other than English Channel, the Colonial Turf Cup has proven to be the highlight of its winner’s careers. Taking a look back Showing Up (’06), Summer Doldrums (’07), Sailor’s Cap (’08), largely mark the 1st leg of the Twin Turf as their career highlight. The jury may still be out on Battle of Hasting’s (’09), however he did go on to win the Virginia Derby.

The second half of the Twin Turf, the Virginia Derby has lauched the careers, in some cases long careers, of its winners. Recently, Go Between (’06) has a superb career on the synthetic, Red Giant (’07) went on to set a world record and Gio Ponti is still winning Grade Ones. Battle of Hastings, if not gathering wins, is gathering solid graded stake checks.

Packett quoted trainer Dale Romans saying that Paddy’s pedigree suggests he will only get better. He is certainly looking for one more win in Virginia.
