NICK’S PICKS, JUNE 21, DAY 18

RUNNING THE TABLE – About 5 years ago, I solved 8 of 9 races on the Nick’s Picks tip sheet – my best handicapping day of choosing top winners at Colonial Downs. However on that card, I missed the 2nd race and never was a threat to run the card.

On yesterday’s Father’s Day card. I started out the day with 5 top choices in a row (Unflapable, O’Gulch, Smart Hokie, Monavista and Valiant Star). If I could have overlapped cards going back to Paddy’s selection in the Turf Cup, the streak was 8 in the row as the swept the late double on Saturday. (I won’t mention that until the Turf Cup I was a dismal 0 for 9.)

So when my 20-1 play on a first time starter that ran midpack in yesterday’s 6th race and faded to second last, my bubble burst. (Hey, at least it took 9 horses to beat him.) A win in the 7th (Rags Old Iron) paid $9.80 was my highest priced winner on the day. Back at it again today. Shooting for 9 in a row.
