MR. PREAKNESS DEAD AT 83

According to Thoroughbredtimes.com, Charles John “Chick” Lang, known to the horse racing industry as “Mr. Preakness,” died last Thursday of natural causes at the age of 83.

Lang had been hospitalized since December 26.

The Maryland Jockey Club announced on Friday that it will rename the Hirsch Jacobs Stakes in honor of Lang, the longtime general manager at Pimlico Race Course. The Grade 3 sprint will be run on Preakness Stakes Gr.I day, May 15.
