Hall of Fame coach and recent NCAA National Champion Rick Pitino of the Louisville Cardinals owns five percent of Kentucky Derby starter and Santa Anita Derby Winner Goldencents.
Pitino said he got interested in the sport of horse racing when he was hired in 1989 to coach the Kentucky Wildcats.
He said he took recruits to nearby Claiborne Farm, where Secretariat lived until his death in October of that year.

“The kids would be in awe,” Pitino said. “The parents all wanted to see the mighty Secretariat.”
