GOING, GOING, GONE

M. P. Walsh parts company with Quolibet at the 11th fence during the John Smith’s Grand National Steeple Chase at Aintree Racecourse on April 9, 2011 in Liverpool, England.  The 100 to 1 shot was uninjured.

Ten-year-old Ballabriggs led for much of the race, and eventually helf off a strong late challenge from amateur jockey Sam Waley-Cohen on Oscar Time who finished second. Third was 2010 winner Tony McCoy on Don’t Push It, 12 lengths behind the second place finisher. The 15/2 favorite The Midnight Club made a mistake at the third fence and finished sixth.  State of Play, the 11-year-old 28/1 shot trained by Welshman Evan Williams, finished fourth and in the top four for the third successive Grand National.  (Photos by Mike Hewitt/Getty Images)
