It looks like Virginian Anne Poulson, whose Hare Forest Farm bred Preakness fourth-placed finisher General A Rod, will have a reason to cheer at the Belmont next weekend: Owners Skychai Racing LLC and Starlight Racing have decided to enter the son of Roman Ruler in the final leg of the Triple Crown after a strong five-furlong work at Churchill Downs’ Trackside training facility Saturday morning. General A Rod went in 1:00.20.

General A Rod joins two other Virginia-connected horses in the Belmont: Tonalist, bred by the Woolcott’s Woodslane Farm in The Plains, and Wicked Strong, owned by a Centennial partnership that includes Maggie Bryant.
