Virginia H.B.P.A. Executive Director Frank Petramalo has compiled some relevant statistics for the first half of the live meet at Colonial Downs.

Attendance is down from 30,970 to 25,101 for the first 20 days, but the 2009 figures included the Fourth of July weekend.

All source handle and total wagers on the Colonial Downs signal are both up. All source has increased from $13,984,607 to $14,695,404 while wagers on the simulcast signal have increased from $11,816,799 to $13,631,357.

To no one’s surprise field size is down from an average of 8.8 last year to 7.7 this year as total starters for the period has declined from 1,667 to 1,482.

Following the trend of declining handle for the past three years, purses are down for the first 20 cards from $3,359,100 to $3,100,600. The purse figures do not include Breeders Fund bonus money.

There have been five Virginia-bred/sired restricted overnight races run so far.
