Seven horses were involved in spill at Charles Town last Wednesday night, with just one horse finishing the race.

Sharp Beauty broke down on the far turn in Wednesday’s eighth race at Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races, triggering the accident that left Miss Fifty as the lone finisher in the eight-horse allowance race.
Charles Town chief steward Danny Wright said only one of the seven jockeys, Anthony Mawing, was kept overnight in hospital for observation. All the others walked away.

“Everybody seems to be OK,” said Wright, who was at the hospital after the accident.

The other six riders to be thrown from their mounts were Grant Whitacre, Mitchell Snow, Jose Montana, Katie Reynolds, Clifford Dooley and Carlos Marrero, who was aboard Sharp Beauty.

Sharp Beauty had to be euthanized.

Wright said: “This was not an issue of the track condition causing an accident. This was a horse breaking down during the race that unfortunately took the field with them.”

Virginia racing stable PTK LLC owned Simsational who was one of the horses involved in the crash.
