The $100,000 Grade 3 All Along Stakes has been renamed the Edward P. Evans All Along Stakes after Virginia’s leading breeder who died in December.

“We suggested the change a few months ago and it just made sense,” said Virginia Thoroughbred Association Executive Director Glenn Petty.  “The All Along Stakes came to Virginia from Maryland.  All Along won the Washington D.C. International. She was a perfectly nice horse with French connections and she really nothing to do with Virginia.”

The plan is to phase in the name over a few years so owners and trainers get used to it, Petty said.

Colonial Downs announced the name change at the 2011 Media Day.
