VRC APPROVES BREEDERS FUND PAYMENTS

The Virginia Racing Commission approved the a resolution at the January meeting which included the following:
The Thoroughbred Sub-Committee of the Virginia Breeders Fund voted unanimously to recommend the following expenditures from the Thoroughbred portion of the Virginia Breeders Fund for 2012:
1. $325,000 for the year-end breeder and stallion awards based on the results of races run in 2011;
2. Approximately $700,000 for the 100% owner’s bonus program and restricted race supplements of 25%;

EVANS LEADING BREEDER FOR 2011

BUSTER’S READY

For the tenth time in eleven years, the late Edward P. Evans was the leading producer of Virginia-bred racehorses.  The Evans’ horses which were dispersed at the Keeneland November Sale earned $2,553,428.  Graded stakes winner Buster’s Ready and Quiet Giant led the way for the Casanova-based nursery.

VA-BRED CHAMP WINCHESTER RETIRED

Bert and Diana Firestone have retired their four-time grade I winner Winchester from racing for stallion duty. Breeding plans for the homebred 7-year-old runner have not been completed.

A Virginia-bred sired by Theatrical, who was a grass champion for Bert Firestone and Allen Paulson, Winchester was produced from Irish group winner Rum Charger (by Spectrum).
