PADDY O’PRADO TO BE RETIRED

2010 Virginia Derby and Colonial Turf Cup winner, Paddy O’Prado (shown here outside Pimlico’s Stakes Barn) is being retired from racing.  Dale Romans and Jerry Crawford (Donegal Racing) are holding at press conference at 1:00 PM Monday afternoon to announce his retirement.  After winning the Dixie at Pimlico a foot bruise was discovered on Paddy O’Prado in the test barn.  Paddy O’Prado was being pointed to the $500,000 Colonial Turf Cup on June 18th.

VA-BRED DANCE CITY FIFTH IN PREAKNESS

The Estate of Edward P. Evans’ Dance City loomed prominent at the 5/16th pole in yesterday’s Preakness but didn’t have quite enough to sustain a winning drive in the second leg of the Triple Crown.   Parked four wide for most of the race, the bay colt by City Zip out of Ballet Colony by Preakness winner Pleasant Colony, was fractious in the gate prior to the start.

The 2010 Virginia Derby winner Donegal Racing’s Paddy O’Prado put an exclamation mark on his 2011 debut with an impressive come-from-behind victory in the $200,000 Jägermeister Dixie Stakes (gr. IIT) at Pimlico Race Course.

With Kent Desormeaux riding for trainer Dale Romans, 3-5 choice Paddy O’Prado, last early in the seven-horse field of three-year-olds and up, circled foes on the far turn and pulled away to an 1 1/2-length score in the 1 1/8-mile turf test.… Continue reading
