TRACKSIDE GRILL HOSTS SECRETARIAT BIRTHDAY DINNER

It’s not too late to make reservations for the “Secretariat” Dinner Party Celebration at the Trackside Grill in Ashland on March 30. Cocktails will be served from from 5:30 – 7 pm followed by dinner.

Tickets are $50 per person and a portion of the proceeds to benefit the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation.

EVANS ESTATE TO DISPERSE AT KEENELAND

The estate of the late Edward P. (Ned) Evans will disperse its Thoroughbred yearlings, weanlings, broodmares and racing stock at Keeneland’s September Yearling and November Breeding Stock Sales.


Evans bred more than 100 stakes winners, including 2005 Horse of the Year Saint Liam and multiple Grade 1 stakes winner Quality Road,

HURRICANE FLY WINS CHELTENHAM OPENING FEATURE

Successful in the 2007 Listed Prix Omnium at Saint-Cloud, Hurricane Fly (Ire) backed up his victory in January’s G1 Irish Champion Hurdle at Leopardstown with success in the $597,000 G1 Champion Hurdle on the first day of Cheltenham’s National Hunt Festival yesterday.
It was his eighth score at the highest level, and he was partnered by Ruby Walsh, who had recently returned to action after a lengthy injury absence.

Handicappers would have had a hard time deciding whether Debra Kachel’s multiple winner Love Colony (Ivan Dowling) or Will Russell’s Forest Bell (Jeff Murphy) should have been favorite in the $2,000 Woodley Cup VHBPA Virginia-bred race. Last fall Love Colony had won three races in the Old Dominion series, but had been upset in the championship race at Great Meadow by Forest Bell.
