HUNCH BET OF THE WEEKEND

Last Friday at Woodbine, the hunch bet players were smiling when Quarterback and Namath showed up in the entries for the fifth race.

As it turned out, they had plenty of smile about when Quarterback, under Eurico Rosa da Silva, rallied to beat favored Namath by a neck. The chestnut two-year-old daughter of Bold Executive, Quarterback, trained by Kevin Attard and owned by Petra and Yvonne Schwabe.

QUALITY ROAD WORKS HALF

Breeders’ Cup Classic Gr.I hopeful Virginia-bred Quality Road worked four furlongs in :49.56 Sept. 25 over the Belmont Park training track. The breeze was the four-year-old’s first since winning the Woodward Stakes Gr.I at Saratoga Sept. 4.

Under exercise rider Patti Barry, the son of Elusive Quality —Kobla, by Strawberry Road, went the first quarter in :24.86 and the second quarter in :24.61, according to the Daily Racing Form. Quality Road galloped out five furlongs in 1:02.95.… Continue reading

ENG: SECRETARIAT WILL APPEAL TO RACING NEOPHYTES

Everybody has high hopes for Secretariat, now less than two weeks from national distribution. Certainly, everyone in the industry hopes it portrays the game in a good light (it does) and that it will help create new fans (it probably will).

BEAU RIDGE STALLION SHOWING

There will a a stallion show and Bar-B-Que at Beau Ridge Farm on Saturday, October 2nd from 1 pm to 4 pm. The farm, located in Kearneysville, WV is celebrating the grand opening of their new stallion barn. They will also be showing the stallions that stand at the farm. SECRETARIAT SCREENING A SUCCESS

Based on the reaction of satisfied movie-goers, last night’s screening of the soon-to-be-released Disney movie Secretariat was a success. The majority of those attending seemed to enjoy both the reception and the film.

“Spirits were high. Folks obviously enjoyed themselves, and the evening, ” said Wayne Dementi of Milestone Publishing who attended with Secretariat’s Meadow — The Land, The Family, The Legend co-author Leeanne Ladin. “We sold lots of books.”

SECRETARIAT CHRONICLER EARNS ROLL OF HONOR AWARD

Bill Nack, Charles Hatton, Steve Crist, and Walter “Red” Smith are the inaugural selections to the National Museum of Racing’s Joe Hirsch Media Roll of Honor, according to a release. The honorees will be recognized in a ceremony Friday, Oct. 1, at Belmont Park, the day before the Joe Hirsch Turf Classic Invitational (gr. IT) at the track.
