COLONIAL DOWNS SETS TURF COURSE ON FIRE – ON PURPOSE

There certainly was last Thursday afternoon, but it was a planned and controlled burn over the 1 1/8 miles Secretariat Turf Course.

COLONIAL DOWNS COMPLETES TRACK LIGHTING PROJECT

Colonial Downs’ “Field of Dreams” – its Secretariat Turf Course – was illuminated for the first time ever last Monday evening as a test of the track’s lighting relocation project took place.


Over the past several months, most of the light standards were moved from outside of the dirt track to inside of the turf course, to illuminate the grass surface instead of the dirt.

The New York Times ran a front page story above the fold in its Sunday Edition about racehorse breakdowns.  The story, one of a four-part series, was primarily focused on Quarter Horse racing in New Mexico, but it’s just a matter of time before they hone in on what happened at Aqueduct this winter.
