MORGAN’S FORD-BRED REDEEMED LEADING VA-BRED EARNER IN 2011

Grade 3 stakes winner Redeemed, who was bred by Wayne and Susie Chatfield-Taylor’s Morgan’s Ford Farm in Front Royal, was the leading Virginia-bred earner for the 2011 with $479,040 in earnings for the past year.

By Include, out of Early Mass by Pleasant Tap, the then three-year-old Redeemed started his sophomore season by breaking his maiden at Gulfstream Park in March.  He followed that win with two allowance win at Belmont in April and July.

100% OWNER’S BONUS BACK AT COLONIAL DOWNS FOR 2012

Once again, registered Virginia-bred or Virginia-sired horses running in open competition and finishing first through fifth, will receive a 100% bonus from the Virginia Breeders Fund.  The “100% Virginia-bred” program now pays the highest percentage in the country.

The 100% bonus increases the purse for Colonial Downs’ $24,000 open maiden race to $48,000 for registered Virginia-bred or Virginia-sired horses.  In 2010, the bonus paid just 60% for first through fourth.

RETIRED RACEHORSE TRAINING PROJECT UNDERWAY

TheRetired Racehorse Training Project is sponsoring a challenge for off-the-track thoroughbreds. The organization has  hand picked three trainers: Kerry Blackmer from Frederick, MD; Tiffany Catledge from Middleburg, VA; and Eric Dierks from Tryon, NC. They all run multi-disciplinary barns, and two of them have competed to Advanced level in Eventing. Each trainer will have five weeks to prepare for a demo ride at the Pennsylvania Horse World Expo in Harrisburg on February 25th, where one of the judges… Continue reading

SIEGEL ELECTED VRC CHAIRMAN

Stuart Siegel of Richmond, who was appointed to the Virginia Racing Commission in 2009, was elected chairman and that regulatory agency’s January meeting.
A former Thoroughbred owner and breeder, raced 1988 Cicada Stakes winner Turn To Money among others.
